I ground my overall approach in three processes : attunement, awareness, and integration.
Attunement
Attunement is a mutual responsiveness to the experience going on right now. So, attunement can be to feeling, sensation, body, relationships… ways of attending to present moments. I support people with active compassion ( from Buddhist practices ), and a sincere curiosity about what’s meaningful to you.
Awareness
Awareness is a shared element combining observations, reflections, and ongoing discussions about whatever arises. This includes ideas, memories, challenges, emotions, and choices shared in dialogue. Then, what may emerge for some ( though not all ) is a new way of relating to therapy and to life’s journey. Some of my curiosities include how one may encourage self-coherence, social engagement, mindfulness, and integration.*
Integration
Integration, which is that final piece, means working with how and where one can apply whatever has been uncovered into daily choices we make in living our lives.
Concurrently, I apply these techniques with my years of trainings and continuing education across 5 MODALITIES :
– Humanistic Therapy ( somatic, Gestalt, and ‘Parts Work’ [the pre-cursor to’IFS’] ).
– Buddhist Psychology ( attention, intention & compassion work ).
–‘ACT ‘ ( ‘Acceptance & Commitment Therapy’ ).
– Narrative Therapy ( themes, symbols, & ‘writer’s mind’ ).
– Mindfulness ( including meditation, breath-work & awareness practices ).
One way to step fully into your life is to practice asking yourself, What’s happening for me right now? Another approach is to view this journey as a process of recovery ( from suffering ) and discovery ( of resources )— How/ when am I hurting? And, What does support look like for that? Through these lenses, any person is capable of re-entering a recovery-discovery process continually, any day, in each moment. Then, this process can become a very real daily practice.
Historically, I’ve supported folks entering life transitions, coping with stressful environments, dealing with relationship challenges, &or struggling creatively. Wherever you are in your journey, I’m looking forward to meeting you there.
